Project Type

An individual bid from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

The Project

Royal Conservatoire of Scotland TheatreSpotlight on Diversity ran events and workshops encouraging the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland community to work collaboratively with the library to build broader, more diverse collections.

Events and workshops were developed to encourage members of the RCS community to explore the concept of diversity and how diverse library collections can inform practice and innovation within the curriculum.

The safe, neutral environment of the RCS library was uniquely placed to allow users to build confidence, promote inclusivity and foster better working practices.

Project Summary

Royal Conservatoire of ScotlandEvents held as part of Spotlight on Diversity focused on a number of different areas including race, identity (including LGBTQ+), class, mental health and neurodiversity. Guest speakers were invited to contribute and the events were supported by the Conservatoire's Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Officers as well as the Student Union.

This led to the creation of physical and online exhibitions, using the library collections to promote and provoke discussions around the topics. Workshops were developed looking at how the library can support and inform curriculum review.

The project also created opportunities for students and staff to work in partnership with the library to shape resource selection to ensure diverse voices are head and are reflected in collection development.
